Arrive Health Acquires UPMC’s Pharmacy Technology to Bring Automation to Pharmacy Outreach Workflows

With the goal of creating a first-of-its-kind pharmacy navigation network, Arrive Health has acquired a suite of innovative patient engagement and automation technologies developed by UPMC Enterprises and the UPMC Pharmacy Network. The technology, known at UPMC as UPMC Rx Express, supports pharmacy-patient outreach and conversation flows. The integrated workflow tools and AI chatbot help care teams prioritize patients who are at risk of skipping their medications and drive engagement through automated refill reminders. Arrive Health aims to improve access to the most affordable, quality care by delivering accurate, patient-specific cost and coverage data to providers, care teams, and patients.

Astrata Earns Certified Data Partner Designation in NCQA Data Aggregator Validation Program

Astrata earned Certified Data Partner designation in the new National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Data Aggregator Validation program. Astrata is part of the latest NCQA cohort to earn this NCQA certification, which indicates that Astrata adheres to strict data standards.

As one of the first of seven data partners to have achieved certification, Astrata is unique in its use of proprietary Natural Language Processing (NLP) transformations to earn NCQA’s rigorous assessment and certification. The company is certified for the Data Transformation, Normalization, and Mapping standard (PSD 4.0), using NLP methods to ensure that standard data streams include the full complement of applicable clinical data.

CarepathRx Health System Solutions (CHSS), a subsidiary of CarepathRx, and Evernorth Health Services, forged a strategic partnership marked by an investment from Evernorth into CHSS. This collaboration combines Evernorth’s extensive specialty and care knowledge with CHSS’ strong pharmacy and infusion management capabilities, technological solutions, and health system affiliations. The aim is to enhance, broaden, and expedite pharmacy care delivery for the increasing population of patients with chronic and complex care needs.

Clearsense Announces Success of $50M Capital Raise

Clearsense, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider collaborating with health care institutions to enhance data value, governance, and transparency, completed a $50 million Series D funding round. HealthQuest led the funding efforts, with continued support from existing investors, including Health Catalyst Capital and UPMC Enterprises.

New Study Suggests Tele-Infectious Diseases Care is an Effective Alternative to In-Person ID Care

A study in Open Forum Infectious Diseases conducted by UPMC in collaboration with Infectious Disease Connect, reveals Tele-Infectious Disease (ID) care as a compelling alternative to in-person ID care. The 642-person retrospective study demonstrates the following key outcomes: Tele-ID showed a substantial increase in patient evaluations (391 consultations compared to 251 for in-person ID), a slightly shorter average inpatient length of stay (3.9 days for Tele-ID versus 4.1 days for in-person ID), a decrease in readmissions, and a 4.7% reduction in antimicrobial usage (938 days of therapy per 1,000 patient-days compared to 984 for in-person ID care). This study underscores the potential of telemedicine to enhance health care accessibility and efficiency.

Pip Care Signs Agreement with UChicago Medicine to Improve Surgical Outcomes and Drive Innovation

Pip Care, a company optimizing the surgical journey for care teams and patients, signed an agreement with UChicago Medicine, one of the nation’s leading integrated academic and community health systems. Launched in 2022, Pip Care partners with health systems to offer best-in-class care to patients throughout the surgical journey. This will be a first-of-its-kind service launched in the Chicago market. The first phase of the agreement includes a pilot of the Pip Care service.

Prodigo Solutions Acquired by Global Health Exchange

Prodigo Solutions, which aims to improve providers’ financial control and reduce supply chain cost, was acquired in April by Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX), a company focused on automating supply chain processes and improving visibility into the products used in patient care.

UPMC created Prodigo in 2008 with an essential mission to drive efficiencies and significant savings throughout the health system and supply chain. With proven success at UPMC over the years, Prodigo’s technology was adopted by other providers and health systems, allowing them to lower the costs of doing business with one another by making information more accessible and data more accurate.

Realyze Intelligence, a company that uses artificial intelligence and natural language understanding (NLU) to analyze health care data, continued building relationships with leading cancer centers. The organization contributed insightful content to the Center for Connected Medicine’s report titled “Optimizing Clinical Trials at Health Systems,” published in June 2023. Additionally in 2023, leaders from Realyze presented at conferences including the AI & Robotics Venture Fair 2023 and Center for Connected Medicine’s Top of Mind for Life Sciences gathering.

Stanford Health CEO David Entwistle Joins Redesign Health’s Board

Distinguished health care executive and former CEO and president of Stanford Health Care David Entwistle has joined the board of directors at Redesign Health, a New York City-based health care startup creator and UPMC Enterprises portfolio company. Renowned for it’s track record, Redesign Health has successfully built and launched 50 health care startups since 2018, making it a key player in fostering innovative solutions in the health care sector. As a board member, Entwistle will help Redesign Health and its portfolio to expedite the journey from conceptualization to clinical implementation.

Safar Telecare Continues Expansion Across the UPMC Footprint

Safar TeleCare is a web-based clinician-to-clinician communication and collaboration tool used to get specialized expertise to any bed, any time for any consults. In 2023, the Technology Services team focused on continued expansion of Safar across and within service lines with UPMC as well as commercial readiness. Accomplishments include the execution of a TeleTriage pilot to prove the value of remote ED triage and the impact on operations and patient satisfaction; implementation of usage tracking to facilitate data-driven feature decisions; integration with two EMRs; and rollout to numerous additional locations within UPMC as well as 13 non-UPMC locations.

Smile Digital Health Closes $30 Million in Series B Funding to Progress Innovation as World-Leading Health Data Fabric Smile Digital Health, a FHIR® health data fabric (HDF) and exchange solutions provider, announced the closing of approximately $30 million in Series B growth capital led by existing investors including UPMC Enterprises.

Smile’s HDF platform uses industry-leading HDF architecture and ONC-compliant, event driven FHIR APIs to allow health care providers, payers, and IT vendors to build secure, composable, and scalable data infrastructures.
